BUDGET WORTHY CELEBRATIONS

| Finance Minister- Uhuru Kenyatta |
2011 Budget is an historical year for the Kenyan girl-child. For the first time, the Budget has Ksh. 300 M set aside to provide sanitary towels for the girls in primary schools nation-wide. “To ensure that girls attend schools throughout the term like boys, I have allocated Ksh. 300 M under Education Ministry to provide sanitary towels for girls in primary schools,” the Minister said.
This is a move that will not only boost young girls’ academic grades but also it will improve their hygienic conditions. Most are times when such girls who can not afford sanitary towels could remain at home to contain the menstrual flow. Others could go to extend of using ineffective pieces of clothes, blankets or tissue papers during their menses. This poses very high chances of contacting fungal infections due to poor hygienic conditions.
This is such a move that we are fond of as Kenyan women. We appreciate you Mr. Prime Minister for popping up the idea of such an humble program and also the Finance Minister for implementing. God bless.
