This condition is common in  the r ural and maginalized parts of Kenya, where the majority of women deliver at home. This is worsened by the fact that, this women give birth without a skilled birth attendant and far from any emergency obstetric care facilities. The prolonged labour in most situations leads to Obstetric Fistula. Those who experience Obstetric Fistula suffer from constant social segregation including their husbands leaving them, incontinence, shame and health problems. Varsities Challenged to Implement Gender Parity in Education

Universities have been challenged to incorporate various strategies and policies to ensure equal gender representation in all circles of operation and management. This was echoed by various speakers at the opening ceremony of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) conference and gender training of Trainers workshop at the University of Nairobi (UoN). Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro noted that there is need for institutions of higher learning should be committed to achieving gender parity in education which is one of the goals of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  Prof. Mutoro said that the University of Nairobi for instance has realized a lot in gender mainstreaming as many positions in management are almost gender balanced and the student population is almost half-half, with some courses realizing more female enrolments than males. I hope when writing this article, the group of students from University of Nairobi who took law into their hands on Sunday 3 rd July, 2011 by burning the two men will read this. I understand you were bitter following the rape of your fellow female comrades but as learned fellows, taking the law into one’s hands especially to extend of murder is unforgivable and abominable. One of the students’ representatives said, ‘some of the guys that were on patrol took the initiative and they found the guys as they were about to rape a lady, and that is when they got hold of them and took action. Varsity Students Should be Careful When Choosing Friends

Graduation ceremony ‘Show me your friends and I will tell you what type of person you are,’ Alan Higgins. Most are the times when young people joining universities and colleges embrace the freedom with so much naivety and anxiety. Some of them come from very strict families where their moves are strictly monitored and high disciplinary measures are instilled. However, this freedom sees most of them indulge into fun blindly. The first drive to this is the friends they choose. Wrong friends exploit such innocent and naïve persons into ‘real’ world. Drug abuse, exceeded partying, prostitution and all the hell of crimes in the name of been adventurous and outgoing become the order of the lifestyle in the varsities.
